An Inside Look at the NSHSS Visual Arts Scholarship 2019

Calling all high school visual artists!

NSHSS is proud to offer scholarships in May 2019 for six students (1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of two categories) based on their talents in the visual arts. The two categories include:

  1. Photography/Digital Photography
  2. Painting/Drawing/Mixed Media/Digital Art

While the first category is self-explanatory, the second can include submissions related to painting, drawing, ceramics, glass, sculpture, mixed media, printmaking, and weaving.

So, if you feel you have a unique piece of art in either category (or both) you would like to submit or want to create art specifically for the scholarship, NSHSS wants to hear from you. Scholarship winners will have the opportunity to win funds that they could use for supplies, tuition, savings, etc.

This is an exciting chance to apply your artistic talents toward your academic or artistic goals. Below are more details of the NSHSS Visual Arts Scholarship 2019, as well as requirements and tips for applying.

Scholarship Application Tips

When it comes to scholarship applications, many students worry about what they can do to stand out from the crowd. Truthfully, the best way to stand out is to just be you. Think about artwork that showcases your artistic vision and talents and submit that artwork bravely!

Students will have the option to apply to both categories offered for this scholarship (with only one entry per category allowed). However, you do not improve your chances for winning by applying to both.

Since all submissions will be judged based on quality and uniqueness of work, use your submission to show NSHSS what makes you and your artwork unique. Everyone has a particular way of viewing the world, and this scholarship application provides you a chance to share yours.

Important scholarship application tips and advice include:

  • Proofread all writing and application details before submitting
  • Allow your unique voice to shine through in all areas of your application
  • Only submit original work
  • Make sure you read all requirements carefully
  • Provide any educators writing a recommendation with all necessary information about how to submit and be sure to follow up to make sure your recommender meets the application deadline. You will not be able to submit your application until this step is marked complete.
  • Choose an educator to recommend you who knows you well and with whom you can talk about extracurricular activities and interests
  • Use your creativity!

Your application should showcase your specific and unique artistic talent and reflect the joy you experience from creating art. Most of all, have fun with your application, and those reviewing it will have fun as well.

More information about the visual arts competition can be found here. Best of luck to all visual art scholarship applicants! NSHSS looks forward to viewing your art submissions and reading your applications.
