I would like to thank the National Society of High School Scholars grant committee for selecting me for this award. Everything I do, I do it for my students. There are days I feel like I am not getting it right, but when I get a message from a past student saying how what I taught them they are able to use it on their current job or in their college classes, I know I am in the right place. God has truly given me a gift to inspire the next generation and I will continue to do so until I can't anymore!

"Thank you to the selection committee and the national scholars organization. It's important to acknowledge the greatest teacher in my life, Jesus Christ, and the privilege of being aligned with the work that God created me to do. Thank you to my parents, siblings, my wonderful educator wife Steyven, and our daughters, who allow me to do this work. I would like to acknowledge my colleagues at ASU Prep Digital for their professionalism and dedication to student success. I would also like to recognize our student body, their families, and our Arizona State University campus partners for creating a culture of academic excellence and innovation. I believe education provides us with the best ability to eradicate institutional poverty and cultivate the next generation of industry leaders. It is a privilege to collaborate with employers, align core academic learning with employment skills, and foster a commitment to relevance in our instructional practices. I humbly accept this award and thank you for the recognition. God bless you."

“I want to thank the Scholarship & Grants committee for selecting me for this incredible honor! As a teacher, I went into the profession because I wanted to make a difference in students’ lives and create positive change. Through the application process, this recognition has helped me to reflect on my years as an educator and the impact I am making every day to my students and the community. I am truly humbled by being selected as the 2022 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year from a pool of other educators that are also doing incredible things in their schools. Thank you!”

"After teaching for as long as I have, I never thought about applying for grants. I thought the process was way too time consuming and didn't think it would be worth the time. I was VERY wrong. The process was very easy as they explicitly tell you what they were looking for in the application and was worth the time. This was the first time I actually applied for a grant and was very fortunate to be awarded one!!! This could be you!"

"I am incredibly honored to be a recipient of the NSHSS Inclusion Grant and deeply grateful for the support it provides in fostering an inclusive learning environment for my students. As an educator, my mission is to create opportunities where all students, regardless of their abilities, feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. This grant has allowed me to implement new strategies and resources that enhance engagement, accessibility, and learning experiences for my exceptional students. NSHSS’s commitment to recognizing educators who go above and beyond is truly inspiring. This recognition not only validates the hard work and dedication of teachers but also reinforces the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in education. I hope my story encourages fellow educators and students to continue striving for excellence, embracing challenges, and making a meaningful impact in their communities. Thank you, NSHSS, for investing in the future of education and for empowering teachers like me to shape a world where every student has the opportunity to thrive."

"Our Art Club is incredibly grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the NSHSS Club Cash Grant. This grant has been instrumental in allowing us to kick off our year with an exciting and ambitious creative project. To start, we are working on a collaborative short film, where our students will have the opportunity to experience every aspect of the filmmaking process, from writing the script to producing, acting, filming, editing, and even composing the soundtrack. This project allows our members to dive into the world of visual storytelling and explore their creativity in ways that build confidence and hone new skills. Following the short film, our students will channel their artistic talents into creating either a graphic novel or a short story, giving them the freedom to express their individual artistic voice while collaborating with their peers. Throughout the remainder of the year, students will continue to explore various fine art mediums, expanding their understanding and appreciation of different techniques and styles. Thanks to the NSHSS Club Cash Grant, we have the resources to offer a dynamic and enriching program that fosters both artistic growth and community collaboration. Thank you, NSHSS, for empowering our students to engage in these unique opportunities and to deepen their passion for the arts!"

"The importance of offering AP classes has been well documented-study after study reveals that students who are challenged with college level classes have more persistence, better study habits, and greater financial flexibility if they pass the rigorous exams. An AP course structured with a bedrock in the inquiry arc allows students to experience learning at a collegiate level long before they enroll in an undergraduate institution. However, it is the underlying impact that offering college level classes has on an entire school community, whether enrolled in AP classes or not, that makes advanced placement a necessity for any high school. I have been teaching AP World History for four years to mostly freshman students in the south side of Chicago. Preparing students for a high stakes exam was not the reason I got into teaching. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the importance of inquiry and student choice, which allows students to see themselves in the history of the world. When I first began this journey of teaching AP World it seemed impossible to get the majority of my students to pass the exam for college credit, and at the same time fall in love with history as I had long ago. My passion for learning stems from asking tough questions about the hard truths of world history, and then searching for my own answers with the research skills I learned from my professors or teachers. I also knew that passing an AP exam for many of my students is a game changer in a higher education system where costs have skyrocketed for families. With the grant from NSHSS I will be able to better serve the needs of my students by curating a robust research library and bypass frustrating paywalls of the elite research databases. Thank you NSHSS for providing that rigor for my students!"

"I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to support our robotics team through this generous grant. Operating a competitive robotics program comes with significant costs, but the skills and experiences these students gain are priceless. This funding will help us provide students with hands-on STEM opportunities that will be invaluable as they prepare for the challenges and innovations of the 21st century. Thank you for empowering our team to dream bigger and work towards a brighter future."
