NSHSS co-founder Claes Nobel, who is known to use “Good Earth to you!” as his favorite greeting, encourages all of us to treat every day as if it were Earth Day by taking action and doing our part to preserve, protect, and tend to this wonderful planet we call home. A renowned thought leader, international speaker, policy maker, community liaison, trainer, and facilitator, Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali serves as the Vice President of Environmental Justice, Climate, and Community Revitalization for the National Wildlife Federation. He is also the founder of Revitalization Strategies, a business focused on moving our most vulnerable communities from “surviving to thriving.” Before joining the National Wildlife Federation, Mustafa was the senior vice president for the Hip Hop Caucus, a national nonprofit and non-partisan organization that connects the hip-hop community to the civic process to build power and create positive change.
Leo is from the Kichwa community of Serena in the Ecuadorian Amazon. He is a climate activist and indigenous rights defender focusing on efforts to build a more just and sustainable society. He is the Founder of the HAKHU Project, a young organization that supports community-based economic initiatives as a way to fight against exploitative oil and mining development in the Ecuadorian Amazon. He serves in many organizations locally and internationally bridging indigenous community initiatives and international support.
Candace Printz taught art at El Dorado High School for fifteen years and is now the Assistant Director of Fine Arts for Socorro ISD in El Paso, Texas. She has won recognition for her efforts in promoting environmental awareness, including the Texas Environmental Educator of the Year Award. In 2019, Candace and other community members created the nonprofit, Green Hope Project, which focuses on art, education, and environmentalism.
