On December 3, 2022, 42 NSHSS members & parents traveled to Stockholm, Sweden, to celebrate our organization's co-founder, Claes Nobel, and his family's history with the Nobel Prize Ceremony. Students spent the week exploring Sweden and taking part in the 2022 Nobel Prize Week festivities!

Saturday, December 3
Students arrived in Stockholm and had some free time to explore the city before getting a good rest for the tour start!
Sunday, December 4
Guided tour of Stockholm City Hall, housing the Stockholm City Council and ceremonial halls where the Nobel Banquet takes place every year on December 10
Travel by tram to the traditional Swedish Christmas market at the outdoor museum, Skansen, for fun and souvenir shopping in the snow-covered park
Orientation meeting and dinner at the Generator Hostel
Monday, December 5
Morning train ride to Stockholm University: Lectures on Sweden, Alfred Nobel, and the Nobel prize process
Guest lecturers: Professors Astrid Gräslund (Chemistry) and Merrick Tabor (Political Science)
Lunch in the university student canteen & visit to the university bookstore

Tuesday, December 6
Bus trip to the nearby city of Uppsala for an all-day visit to the historic sites and Sweden’s oldest university and a walking tour of historic sites
Lunch at an Uppsala University Student Nation House
Wednesday, December 7
Students split into groups to tour Karolinska Institutet (Medicine) and the Royal Institute of Technology (Engineering)
Museum day! Participants split into smaller groups to visit the museums of their choice: Vassa Museet, Nordica Museet, Viking Museum, and Abba Museum
Reception at the U.S. Embassy residence for presentations, refreshments, and Q&A
Evening: creative session at the Generator Hostel, where students created their own Swedish souvenir, a Dala horse!
Thursday, December 8
Open lectures at Stockholm University by the 2022 Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry, and economic sciences
Friday, December 9
Nobel Week Dialogue, a full-day event with Nobel laureates and experts speaking on the theme: “The future of life”
Saturday, December 10: Nobel Day!
Morning visit and guided tour of the Nobel Prize Museum
Christmas Market and exploring Gamla Stan, the old town where the iconic Swedish landmarks, Royal Palace, and Parliament House are located
A very special evening Nobel dinner and our own Nobel Ceremony at the Faculty Club of Stockholm University
