The National Society of High School Scholars recently held a member event at the Doubletree Memphis Downtown on April 20, 2013. During this event, more than 150 students, parents, and educators participated in recognition presentations and met representatives from the CIA, U.S. Department of State, Georgetown College, Morehouse College and Rice University.
Dr. Clinton Carter, a parent of three NSHSS members, spoke about the book “Outliers” by Malcom Gladwel, upbringing his children, and recognized the important role that parents play in encouraging their children to follow their passions. Morgan Vazquez, National Scholar Award winner and Student Council member shared her top tips to make the best of your high school years. Morgan’s tips included volunteering, challenging yourself, seeking scholarships and finding your passion. A raffle by NSHSS Partner Abercrombie & Fitch followed, in which Hollister & Co. gift cards were given away to event attendees. Pictures from the event can be found on our Facebook page.
