"Working with NSHSS has empowered me to be a creative and compassionate teacher. As an educator, it can feel like I'm always trying to perform an infinite number of miracles with a finite supply of loaves and fishes. The grant I received this year from NSHSS has quickly been converted into a garden for our environmental science elective targeted towards kids with learning disabilities. "Receiving the NSHSS Club Grant is both an honor and a powerful affirmation of the work we are doing at Majengo High School. As a teacher and counselor, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges students face academic pressure, emotional struggles, and social barriers. Through the Peer Support & Counseling Club, we strive to create a safe space where students feel heard, valued, and empowered to support one another. This grant is more than financial support, it is an investment in young people who are learning to lead with empathy, resilience and compassion. It will enable us to strengthen peer mentorship, expand mental health awareness and actively address bullying within our school community. "I am incredibly grateful to the National Society of High School Scholars for extending this opportunity to our team. In the rural area where we are located, tournament opportunities are infrequent, which means that our annual travel expenses are quite high. Each year, I have students who qualify for the national tournament yet decline to attend because the cost is prohibitive for them. This grant will help make attendance at nationals possible for students who might not otherwise be able to go."
